Accommodation Information

 

 

Hotel Bookings:  Hotel accommodation in Lemessos (Limassol) at reduced prices has been reserved.  Participants are requested to complete the registration form and together with a deposit equivalent to one night accommodation mail/fax it to the Secretariat before 31/03/2000.  As the number of rooms reserved is limited, hotel rooms will be offered on a first come first served basis. We will therefore ask you to indicate at least two choices of hotel on the registration form.  Confirmation of the hotel booking will be sent to you together with the invoice after having received the registration form and the one night deposit. Any request for accommodation received after 31/03/2000 cannot be guaranteed and will be subject to availability by the hotels at the time of the booking. However,  every effort will be made on our part to offer you an alternative.

 

Please note that for all hotels check in time is after 3.00 p.m./ check out time before 12.00 noon. Hotel prices below are on bed and breakfast basis.

 

Le Meridien Hotel (the Conference Venue): A 5 star hotel and probably the most luxurious property on the island. This elegant and luxury hotel stands on 70000  sq. m. of land right on the beach, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and combines the very best of French style and service with the warmth of friendly Cypriot hospitality. Distance from the city centre about 10 min. and 40 min. from Larnaca airport. Facilities: Outdoor pool, indoor pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, steambath, tennis, squash, water sports, restaurants, bars, coffee shop. All rooms with private bathroom, mini bar, radio, telephone, hair dryer, colour TV/ satellite, balcony, air-conditioning/ heating.

Elias Beach Hotel: An elegant 4 star luxury hotel on the beach of the Amathus area, providing an extensive range of facilities. The hotel has its own horse riding centre and golf club. It is situated 10 km east of Limassol and 40 min. from Larnaca airport. We consider it as one of the best 4 star properties on the island. Distance from Le Meridien hotel (Conference Venue) 1 km. Facilities: outdoor pool, indoor pool, gym, sauna, jacuzzi, tennis, squash, water sports, restaurants, bars, coffee shop. Ajax hotel: A  good 3 star property in Limassol town . The AJAX is well situated to enjoy all the amenities of Limassol to the full. It stands conveniently between the new tourist area and the town center with a massive selection of bars, tavernas and tempting shops within minutes walk. Distance from Le Meridien hotel (Conference Venue) 10 minutes by taxi.  Facilities: outdoor pool, restaurant, and coffee shop. All rooms with private bathroom, radio, telephone,  balcony, airconditioned/ heating.

Azur Hotel: A 2-star basic but good quality hotel situated at the Yermasoyia district of Limassol, the most touristic and livelly side of town, 10 minutes by taxi from the Meeting Venue and 50 minutes from Larnaca airport.

 

  Prices: Single room (1 person) USD 42.00 per room per night.

              Double room (2 persons) USD 62.00 per room per night.

 

 

Cancellations:  Hotel reservations cancelled before 31/03/2000 will be eligible for refund of deposit less 10% administrative charge.  A refund less 20% administrative charge will be paid for cancellations received after 31/03/2000 and before 30/04/2000.  The one night deposit payment will be held for cancellations received after 30/04/2000.

 

General Information

 

Cyprus: Situated at the north-eastern end of the east Mediterranean basin, Cyprus is the third largest island in the Mediterranean, with an area of 3572 square miles. Although the island is predominantly Greek, more than 80 % of it's population are Greeks, it is a place with its own unique character. Climate & Clothing: In May warm sunny days and pleasant evenings  with an average day temperature 30.00 degrees Centigrade and 18.00 in the evenings. Average rainfall days 9. Light-weight apparel for the day and medium-weight for the evenings. Sea temperature around 25.00. Casual dress for the meeting but lounge suit for the Gala Dinner please.

 

Health Regulations: Cyprus is free from the epidemic diseases, and even the common infectious diseases are rare; no vaccination is required for international travellers. The climate of Cyprus is considered as one of the most healthy in the world.

 

Currency and Credit Cards: The local unit of currency is the Cyprus Pound (CYP) divided into 100 cents. For indication purposes the exchange rate as at February 2000 is 1CYP=1.70 US$. All the major international credit cards are widely acceptable.

 

Cost of Living: Cyprus is considered as one of the least expensive countries of Europe. The cost of a meal at an ordinary restaurant with wine and coffee costs about CYP10.00.

Prices: All prices in this booklet (Registration/ Hotel accommodation/ are in Cyprus Pounds (CYP) and are inclusive of VAT and all other local taxes.

 

Travelling: The island's major International Airport is at Larnaca town, situated some 60 km from Nicosia. More than 30 airlines including, Cyprus Airways, the island's national carrier, and official sponsor to the congress, operate scheduled flights to and from Cyprus.

 

Travelling to your hotel in Limassol from Larnaca airport is by private taxi and costs around CYP 20.00 (USD 38.00) each way per taxi (4 seater). Taxis can easily be found at any time at the airport's taxi rank.

 

Guests not staying at Le Meridien may use the hotel’s free bus service running along  the main coastal avenue every hour and stopping at the Azur and Elias hotel and on the main road 5 minutes walk from Ajax. CYDEM is not responsible to offer transport to those guests staying in any other hotel or to those who have not made their hotel accommodation arrangements through us.

 

Ticket Reconfirmation: Certain airlines require ticket reconfirmation (Cyprus Airways) so don't forget to reconfirm your return flight. You may do that by telephoning the airline directly.
