Final Message


 

Dear colleagues,

The Melecon 2000 conference is only one week days away.  Please find
herein below the final update regarding the conference:

1. Final program, paper presentation and audiovisual aids

The final program is available at the conference Web site in MSWord.
All papers will be allocated 15 minutes in total (12 minutes for
presentation, and 3 minutes for discussion).  As the conference is
running on a very tight schedule, this timing will be strictly followed.

Furthermore, please note that overhead projectors, as well as DLP
(computer) projectors will be available in all rooms.  In the case of
DLP projectors, it is strongly suggested to have a back up copy of your
talk in transparencies as well.  Please check the audiovisual aids you
need before the beginning of the session.  Also, slide projectors will
be available upon request.

2. Registration

The registration desk will be open on:

Sunday, May 28, 18:30-21:00,
Monday-Wednesday, May 29-31, 08:00-17:00.

3. Social program  (invitations are attached):

a. Welcome cocktail, Sunday, May 28, 07:30-22:00
- 7:30-8:30 Cyprus History, Art, and Tradition by Zacharias Rallis,
Postal Museum
- 8:30-09:45 Welcome cocktail

Bus departure from Azur Beach Hotel, Ajax Hotel, and Elias Beach Hotel
to Le Meridien Hotel at 18:30.
Bus departure from Le Meridien Hotel to Azur Beach Hotel, Ajax Hotel,
and Elias Beach Hotel at 09:45.

b. Afternoon tour of the old part of Nicosia, Monday, May 29,
16:30-23:00.

Bus departure from Le Meridien Hotel 16:30.   For accompanied persons a
bus will depart from Azur Beach Hotel, Ajax Hotel, and Elias Beach Hotel
to Le Meridien Hotel at 15:30.  The buses will take you back to your hotels at 23:00.

c. Gala dinner, Amathus Hotel, May 30, 20:30-23:30

Bus departure from Le Meridien Hotel, Elias Beach Hotel, Azur Beach
Hotel, and Ajax Hotel to Amathus Beach Hotel at 20:00.
Bus departure from the Amathus Hotel to Le Meridien Hotel, Elias Beach
Hotel, Azur Beach Hotel and Ajax Hotel at 23:30.

Dressing for all events is informal.

4. Transportation - Bus connections between the hotels and the
conference venue:

There will be buses everyday taking you from your hotel (Azur, Ajax,
Elias) to the conference venue and backwards.  The schedule is as

follows:

- Sunday, May 28, 18:30/21:45
- Monday, May 29, 07:45/23:00
- Tuesday, May 30, 08:00/17:00
- Wednesday, May 31, 08:00/17:00

5. Traveling from Larnaca or Pafos airport to your hotel:

Please take a taxi, and ask to be taken to your hotel destination.  All
the hotels booked via the conference secretariat are located in Lemesos
(or Limassol).  The cost for hiring the taxi is as follows:

- Larnaca – Lemesos: approximately USD32 (additional charge of USD4,
hours 20:00-06:00)
- Pafos – Lemesos: USD38 (additional charge of USD4, hours 20:00-06:00)
- Additional charge for bags USD1.6.

Please note that the above costs are approximate.  Also, the taxi may be
shared by more than one.

6. Banking services and currency exchange:

The Cyprus currency is the Cyprus pound.  One Cyprus pound is equivalent
to approximately USD1.58. There are 24hrs banking services at the
airport. You can also change money at your hotel, or at the bank.

Please note that upon your arrival in Cyprus if you need any assistance
you can call Constantinos Pattichis at 09 67 13 88, or Costas
