On the second day, there were four quick talks about using technology in the water industry. Dr. Abhilash Nair talked about digital tools, while Emel Tüfekçi focused on their use in Turkey. There was also a talk about a case study from the SMART4ENV project, and another about a creative method for solving water management issues using Lego. After that, a group photo and video with a drone was taken and they visited the ISKI Agva Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant. Later, students brainstormed solutions to cybersecurity problems and developed their ideas further.

The camp started with opening remarks from Assist. Prof. Mehmet Emin Paşaoğlu (ITU-MEMTEK) and Assist. Prof. Selda Murat Hocaoglu (TÜBİTAK MAM) led the brainstorming session. Several experts gave lectures on various topics. Dr. Vincent Wolfs (SumAqua) showcased five prototypes developed during the camp. The brainstorming session utilized GroupMap. Prof. Pierre Berube (UBC-CA) observed and chaired the “Identification/early warning system” table. The “cyber-attacks” table was led by Dr. Vincent Wolfs, with co-chairs Jascanu Veronica (SmarTech Automation) and Assoc. Prof. Kubra Ulucan-Altuntas (ITU). Dr. Selda Murat Hocaoglu chaired the “response options” table, with co-chairs Katharina Pilar Von Pilchau (Technische Hochschule Ostwestfalen-Lippe) and Dr. Abhilash Nair (DOSCON AS). Students generated ideas during brainstorming sessions and further developed them using the Business Model Canvas. The day concluded with a joint dinner.

Three day innovation camp was held in Istanbul for the project DigiWater on 15-17 March 2023. It was organized by ITU – MEMTEK Research Center and MEMSIS, aimed to address the handling of both natural and human-caused disasters in the water industry using digital ideas. This is especially important considering the recent earthquakes in Turkey and the rising number of cybersecurity threats worldwide.

On the final day, students presented their innovative ideas, judged by professionals from our project and KU Leuven. Two teams with the best presentations were awarded. Daan Buekenhout and Kato Schoeters congratulated the winning teams with small gifts. We applaud all students for their hard work. Special thanks to Daan Buekenhout, Prof. Patrick Willems from KU Leuven, Dr. Ir. Vincent Wolfs, and Kato Schoeters from SumAqua for organizing this successful camp.

On the third day of the camp, Prof. Barbu Marian from Universitatea „Dunărea de Jos” din Galați, gave a course on “Test Platform WWTP”. Students then continued their group work. After lunch, we had a consultation where students received feedback on their presentations. We also had a staff meeting to review all work packages and confirmed the date for the second innovation camp in Istanbul, Turkey. The day ended with a pleasant dinner sponsored by SumAqua, enjoyed by both staff and students.

On the energetic second day of the camp, activities began at 9:00 with a presentation by Katharina Pilar von Pilchau about a virtual tour. Then, there were four short courses on IoT, Big Data, and Cyber Security, two online and two in-person. Daan Buekenhout and Prof. Harsha Ratnaweera gave in-person presentations, which were also streamed online. Students worked in groups of 2-3 using the innovation canvas model. The day ended with a brewery excursion.

The first day of the Leuven Innovation Camp for the DIGIWATER project kicked off with a keynote lecture by Prof. Patrick Willems from KU Leuven on water challenges in Flanders and Europe. Dr. ir. Vincent Wolfs from Sumaqua then presented on using AI for drought forecasting in the water sector. Participants were split into three groups for brainstorming on innovative solutions to digital technology’s role in addressing floods, water scarcity, and water quality issues.

After the successful completion of the digital water curriculum design workshop, for the project DigiWater, the team organized an innovation camp to launch the first demonstration in Leuven, Belgium. Scheduled between 4 and 7 October 2022, this event aimed to foster creativity and collaboration to explore new approaches to digital water solutions within a live educational environment.

On the 6th of March 2023, the consortium of our project DEEL4HOST met in person for the second Transnational Project Meeting of the which took place at premises of Cyprus Mathematical Society in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The Research Report on the evaluation of similar platforms, which was produced in late 2022 was presented to the consortium

During the meeting the partners discussed the progress of the project and evaluated the work done so far. The detailed requirements of the web platform have been established and a specification document was produced.

The UCY Technical team of the Erasmus+ Project DIPHE is proud to announce that the e-Learning platform we have developed as part of the IO5 of the project is nearing completion and will be ready for pilot testing soon.

The platform was made from scratch, completely custom to the needs of this project and its target audience, who will consist of -amongst others- people with all kinds of disabilities, learning difficulties and impairments.

The e-Learning platform features a very human-centric and simplistic User Interface with minimal visual clutter and distractions, as well as a number of accessibility features such as a high-contrast setting, on-demand setting for increasing the font size as well as a forum where learners can engage in a collaborative discussion about the project material.

The platform can be found at the DIPHE Project Website and to access it, a registration is required.

The project’s goal is to reduce vocational training dropouts and increase motivation for lifelong learning. Throughout the project, teachers from professional schools and operational vocational trainers collaborate on the project because young adults with lower ability in some of the contents are more likely to continue their academic career within the framework of a vocational training.

Project Period: 31.05.2022 – 30.05.2025

Duration: 36 months

Therefore, within the framework of the project, the partners will develop a modular Further Training to become a “Coach for Inclusive Learning Processes – iLEAP Coach” for teaching and training. The involved teachers and trainers will learn what learning processes are and how to define them. They learn how to communicate in a target group-specific way, how to motivate disadvantaged young people, how to involve them in cooperations and how they can accompany them in their individual development.

Within the framework of the trainings, they receive information on communication and conflict management and can offer or mediate assistance in difficult individual socio-economic situations. The training teaches them how to identify and promote the competencies of the target group in order to develop personal strengths, interests and a sense of achievement. In addition, the teachers learn which digital tools they can use meaningfully in lessons for disadvantaged pupils. A corresponding method case is developed, which can then be used variably.
