On Thurday, 18th June 2026, the Department of Computer Science of the University of Cyprus was represented at the Digital Conference “Shaping the Next Digital Frontier”, organised in Nicosia in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2026.
Prof. Vasos Vassiliou moderated the panel discussion “Europe’s DNA Challenge”, focusing on the future of Europe’s digital networks, connectivity infrastructure, resilience, investment, regulation and technological sovereignty.
The discussion brought together leading European voices from the European Commission, Connect Europe, GSMA and BEREC, highlighting the importance of computer science, networking research and digital infrastructure expertise in shaping Europe’s next digital policy agenda.
For our Department, this was a strong reminder that research and education in computer networks, cybersecurity, distributed systems and digital infrastructure are not only academic priorities — they are central to Europe’s strategic future.
Thank you to the distinguished panelists: Kamila Kloc, Alessandro Gropelli, Laszlo Toth and Marko Mišmaš.
