Pavlos Antoniou is a member of the Special Teaching Staff at the Department of Computer Science in the University of Cyprus since 2009, and a member of the Networks Research Laboratory (NetRL) since 2005. He holds a Ph.D. (2012) in Computer Science from the University of Cyprus and a Dip.Ing. degree (2005) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (Greece). Apart from his teaching responsibilities, he is also serving as a Research Associate for the Erasmus+ funded SEnDIng Project developing educational material for the Internet of Things (IoT) online course since January 2018. Before his current appointment, he has been a Research Associate of the Computer Science Department from September 2005 to June 2009. In particular, he has been the main Researcher in the RPF-funded MiND2C project dealing with Mimicking Nature for Designing Robust Congestion Control Mechanisms in Self-Organized Autonomous Decentralized Networks from December 2008 to June 2009. He has also been a Researcher in the EU-funded GINSENG project dealing with Performance Control in Wireless Sensor Networks from September 2008 to June 2009. Furthermore, he has been a Researcher in the UCY funded ADAVIDEO project from August 2005 to November 2006 dealing with adaptive video transmission in the Internet.
His research interests include design (protocols, architectures, applications) and analysis (modelling, simulation and implementation) of networked systems. In particular, he is interested in concepts of complex control and biologically/nature inspired techniques including Computational Swarm Intelligence (e.g. Bird Flocking behavior) and Mathematical Models in Population Biology (e.g. Lotka-Volterra model), for enabling robust, self-organized and self-adaptable networked systems. Furthermore, he has particular interest in Machine Learning algorithms, techniques and tools for analysing behaviour and solving problems in complex systems, especially on energy-efficient environments.
He also enjoys combining research, discovery and problem-solving to create novel products and services that will benefit the public. He has been involved in the startup scene as a co-founder of the Viridom project which aims to make homes and buildings energy-intelligent.
