The Laboratory for Internet Computing (LInC - http://linc.ucy.ac.cy), Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus, announces one (1) vacancy for a full-time or part-time Special Scientist position to work on research programmes of the lab. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to research conducted within the scope of the AdaptoFlow, 6G-SandBox, and AI-DAPT projects. LInC focuses its research activities on the following important areas: Cloud Computing (Elasticity, Monitoring, Energy), Edge/Fog Computing (IoT, Middleware, Energy) and Big Data Analytics (Sentiment & Predictive Analysis, Online Social Networks).

It should be noted that one (1) month of full-time employment at the University of Cyprus corresponds to 140 working hours.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must possess:

  • BSc in Computing or Engineering or other related fields.
  • MSc in Data Science, AI or Computer Science.
  • Excellent knowledge of Mathematical Modeling, Statistics, Data Analysis and Python.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in both English and Greek.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in any of the following fields will be considered an advantage:

  • Solid knowledge of data science tools (e.g. NLTK) and machine learning libraries (e.g. MLlib, Scikit, TensorFlow, etc.)
  • Experience in Energy Modeling.
  • Experience in Cloud platforms (OpenStack, VMWare), Containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Background in Distributed Computing and Web Technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with big data technologies (e.g. Spark, Hadoop).
  • Experience working with data of varying volume, velocity, and variety, including formulating pertinent questions and experimenting with various machine learning algorithms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The candidate will join the research team at the Laboratory for Internet Computing (LInC) and engage in cutting-edge research within the chosen project.

The applicant’s responsibilities will include:

  1. Completing project work packages.
  2. Collaborating with international groups and fellow members of the Laboratory for Internet Computing research team.
  3. Making scientific contributions to the research program's themes.
  4. Writing scientific papers and technical reports in English, as well as delivering presentations at international scientific forums.
  5. Consistency in the timelines agreed and accountability in the management of all technical aspects of the laboratory and the research team.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The position is available on a contractual basis. Initially, a one-year contract will be offered, with a six-month probationary period that may be extended based on performance. The monthly gross salary for full-time employment (i.e. 140 hours per month) ranges from €1400 to €2500 depending on the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific duties. Employee contributions to various Government Funds will be deducted from the aforementioned amounts. Please note that a 13th salary bonus is not provided.
